BAU Faculty of Architecture and Design held "A Prelude to Design" event on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at BAU Future Campus.
The event started with the opening speech of Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design Prof. Dr. Murat Dündar. Lighting designer and founder of ONOFF Lighting Design firm, Ali Berkman, with his conference titled "Light&Darkness", enabled the participants to look at light and shadow from a new perspective. At the end of the conference, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Beşkese and Dean Prof. Dr. Murat Dündar presented a certificate of appreciation.
The event continued with the exhibition opening and cocktail. The exhibition consists of the works of first-year students from Architecture Department, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department, and Industrial Design Department in their Basic Design courses. The students of Architecture and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Departments worked on one of the most basic architectural subjects, Solid & Void, on the project called “E(MOTION)”. They tried to express their feelings with the help of light, shadow, texture, material and color. Industrial Design Department students created abstractions of underwater organisms of their choice by working on a project called “GROWING UNDERWATER NATURE”, experimenting with modules and interpreting the concept of growth within a cube. The exhibition can be seen at Future Campus until 17 December.
The event ended with the experimental workshop of the world-famous artist Fırat Neziroğlu, the new member of the BAU family. In the workshop, students first became aware of the effect of their body movements, and then they discovered how connected they were to each other in the work they did with hand knitting.
