Career opportunity in Germany is coming for Faculty of Health Sciences students. Students will have the opportunity to have a language education as well as an opportunity to work in Germany through the agreement between Bahçeşehir Üniversitesi (BAU) and Medufication International GMBH.
According to estimations made by World Health Organization and World Bank, in the year 2030 global demand for health care workers will go up to 80 million. Also, according to Europe Workforce Market 2020 report nurse practitioners is the most needed job in eighteen countries with England and Germany being in the first place. This is followed by physicians and health care personnel, respectively. While there is serious demand for health care personnel from Germany to Turkey, the first condition determined by Germany is German language proficiency. BAU started to act within this scope by cooperating with Medufication International GMBH in Germany and aiming to support students who want to continue their education in Germany, find internships and jobs.
Medufication International GMBH, which has strong connections with important schools and companies especially in the field of physical therapy, will provide guidance and support in subjects such as education, internship, work, and language education to BAU students. While all services will be provided for BAU students who want to continue their education in Germany, needs such as accommodation will also be met. Working together with physiotherapy service provider firms, the company will provide a wide range of services from language service to social life guidance along with counseling to help with the integration of the BAU Faculty of Health Sciences students in the professional business life.
“THERE ARE MANY ADVANTAGES OF BEING IN GERMANY”
Gökberk Demirel, who got the chance to improve his professional skills in Germany and completed his license and postgraduate education in BAU Faculty of Health Sciences, shared his experiences about Germany: “In 2012 I got in the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at BAU and although it is not compulsory for my department, I started my education with a 1-year English preparatory program in line with my request. In 2014, I started my education in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics under the double major program. I completed both departments with honors in 2017 and started my master's degree in chiropractic the same year. I completed my master's degree in 2020.
The same year I applied for the ERASMUS program and came to Germany. I choose Germany because it was close to Turkey. There is also scholarship support that I received within the ERASMUS program. As part of this program, I find the opportunity to apply physiotherapy and chiropractic approaches to patients who come to the clinic. Thus, I increase my professional skills. In addition to this, I attend a language course to improve my language skills and shortly after I will take the language exam and complete the procedures for the equivalence of the diploma. Also, if I provide the necessary opportunities, it is among my plans to do a doctorate. There are many advantages of being in Germany. For me, it is being able to improve myself in the field of chiropractic and besides that accelerating my language learning process due to having the opportunity to talk German in day-to-day life.”
“FREE GERMAN LANGUAGE COURSE FOR STUDENTS”
Expressing that the most demand for health personnel from Turkey comes from Germany, BAU Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Fatma Eti Aslan said that this demand stems from the Turkish population in Germany and the old generation not knowing how to speak German. Aslan said the following: “First-generation of Turks in Germany doesn’t know German and this generation now has chronic diseases. They need physiotherapy and nursing care right now, but they do not speak a word of German. Therefore, Germany's most preferred healthcare professionals are physiotherapy and nursing. On the other hand, the number of German-speaking physiotherapy and nursing students in Turkey is low. Language education is the biggest obstacle to have a career in Europe. For this reason, as BAU Faculty of Health Sciences, we provide free German courses to our senior students and graduates. Our students take German lessons intensively.
It is imperative to make some practices to strengthen the infrastructure of students to address the lack of healthcare professionals in the world. For example, through our representative company in Germany, Medufication International GMBH, we offer our students the advantage of doing an internship in Germany with professional practice. We count internships done in this way as official internships. We do this within the framework of our collaborations with universities in Germany. We also provide a changing environment with ERASMUS. We create the content of the course curriculum together with the national core education program, as suggested by the World Health Organization and other professional organizations.”
