First Communication Department in Turkey, Third in The World to Sign UNESCO'S Declaration: Bahçeşehir Communication
Healthier, Livable and Better World
UNESCO Communication Chair International Network (ORBICOM) published a declaration drawing attention to the responsibilities of communication professionals in matters that will affect the future of the world. Bahçeşehir University, Faculty of Communication became the first communication faculty to sign the declaration in Turkey and supported the correct way to teach the education of communication. The "International Declaration of Communication Professionals and Researchers for a Healthier, Livable and Better World" were published on January 21, 2021, including all communication practitioners on a global level;
• Facing either the pandemic we are in and the urgent climate crises or all the threats that will appear in the future, to undertaking their responsibilities through information and communication.
• To underline at every opportunity that everyone deserves the same protection regardless of race, origin, gender, group, or status.
• Free from fear and hate; to always encourage global, participatory, inclusive communication by communicating open, transparent, and honest.
• To continuously improve their knowledge and experience to make ethical, equal, genuine, and transparent communication dominant.
• It invites all humanity to help build a healthier, livable, and better world and to act in cooperation.
Communicators Among the Worlds Pioneers
In Turkey, the public relations and communications consultancy sector; Turkey Public Relations Association (TUHID), Communications Consultancy Companies Association (IDA) became one of the first non-governmental organizations in the world to announce their support and to sign the declaration affirming to continue providing communication services within the framework of the aforementioned criteria.
Bahceşehir University Faculty of Communication became the first Communication Faculty in Turkey and third in the world to sign the declaration and announced that they provide education of communication properly to the essence of the said declaration and will continue to adopt an education system suitable for these sensitivities in the future.
