Attention To graduate students and related Advisors, regarding "Thesis 2’’ and ''Project'', 2019-2020 academic year’s Fall Semester

Students who had taken and passed “Seminar” and “Thesis-1” courses and had passed to the writing and jury defense phase “Thesis-2”, In order to fulfil graduation requirements must follow the below stated small calendar in terms of dates. The thesis advisors are responsible for the following dates as much as Thesis-2 students are.

Advisors, must check the plagiarism report of the theses work must be below %25 (as stated and approved in the regulations), must state their approval to the Graduate School for the first format control (with respect to the deadline).

No theses will be taken into format control unless all of the following three requirements are met: Jury proposal form, plagiarism report, and the hard copy of the thesis with the advisor’s approval.

Theses which are not approved by the the advisor will not be accepted into format control.

Theses taken into format control will be accepted as the thesis’s last version, no adding or removals could be done.

Theses, which are not accepted into format control or their format is not approved yet cannot enter Jury defense.

Adding or removals from the thesis means that thesis should get “thesis amendment” grade.

Completed and approved theses (in terms of format) by the Graduate School of Social Sciences must be submitted to jury members on the mentioned dates.

Jury defenses must take place within the dates stated in the calendar below, the students and the supervisors are responsible to make it happen.

Students who are found successful and their theses were approved must submit their theses binded with the blue cover, attaching all the required documents before the deadline, as their graduation decisions are taken upon that. Also; if the thesis advisor did not enter the grade as successful, even though the student has submitted the thesis and documents graduation decisions will not be taken as well until it is entered to the system.

Thesis Format Control:

 

The Thesis is edited and Checked by the Graduate School of Social Sciences. After a thesis is edited,   the editor may request amendments.

Students are fully responsible for preparing the thesis according to  The Thesis Writing Guide and sample pages may be found above this page.

 

 

Important Notes:

  •                   Students who are in their last thesis semester (Thesis XXXX-2):
  •                   Thesis Jury Proposal Report will be submitted to the Graduate School of Social Sciences by Thesis Advisor no later than by December 13, 2019.
  •                   All printed theses, which will be submitted to the Graduate School of Social Sciences for editing, must have a written note stating: “I have read this thesis and approved it for editing.” bearing your advisors signature and date of signature.
  •                   Without the stated requirements, no thesis can be accepted to edit. Along with a hardcopy (printed).
  •                   Incomplete Theses will NOT be accepted for editing.
  •                   You must submit your completed Thesis for Format Control latest by December 13, 2019. (Earlier submissions are also accepted.)
  •                   After December 13, 2019, the thesis will NOT be accepted to edit.

 

Important Dates:

 

16-21 September 2019 Monday-Saturday

 

The students who have reached the stage of taking the project, thesis and seminar in graduate programs have to register the project, thesis and seminar online.

30 September-05 October 2019 Monday-Saturday

 

Add-drop week for all graduate students.

09-13 December 2019 Monday-Friday

 

The dates of submission of Master's and doctoral theses to the Graduate School for the format control. The master's and doctoral dissertations submitted after this date shall not be processed and the candidate shall not enter the jury defense.Deadline for the project, Master's and PhD thesis advisors to submit the titles of the projects and theses, the names of the students and their programs - in order to form the thesis defense committees (Thesis defense committee Proposal form)- to the Graduate School of Social Sciences, in written form, together with the names of the recommended committee members.

25 December 2019 Wednesday

 

Deadline for the formation of the Master's and PhD Thesis defense committees for the approved students, by the Graduate School of Social Sciences, in accordance with the regulations; and the submission of a sufficient number of printed copies of the theses to the committee members.

06-12 January 2020 Monday-Sunday

 

Final exams of the graduate courses opened in the 2019-2020 Academic year Fall Semester. (Masters’ students Thesis defenses must be completed by the end of the finals week)

14 January 2020 Tuesday

 

Last Day for entry of the semester-end grades until 17:59 pm in addition to masters’ Theses and projects grades. GRADES ENTRY MUST BE COMPLETED.

28 February 2020 Friday

 

Last Day for all of the following: Delivering to Institute; the results of Post Graduate Thesis Defense Exam, hardcover copy of Thesis and all required documents, To create Postgraduate thesis watch committee, thesis defense and proficiency exam result.

* Thesis format controls of Law and Psychology programs are done by thesis advisors.

Presentation of Thesis, and graduation requirements:

-          The Thesis must be completed with the thesis advisor

-         Theses must pass format check

-         The Theses must be presented in front of a jury.

-         The Graduate School of Social Sciences requires students to present the completed report.

-          The presentation deadline is January 12, 2020.

-         Following the presentation, the Presentation Evaluation Report must be filled out and signed by the advisor and committee members. The student must submit the report to the Graduate School of Social Sciences. (See Submission of Thesis).

-         It is also possible to make presentations earlier than the deadline.

-          

 Thesis Amendment:

  •                   Upon the jury’s request, the Graduate School may grant the student up to 90 days extra time to conduct minor revisions on the thesis. This is only possible after the thesis has passed the editing process and presentation.
  •                   Please note that a correction is not an extension. The jury request is evaluated by the Graduate School Executive Board.
  •                   The thesis needs to be presented once again after the revision; the thesis process is done all again.

 

 

 Important:

The deadlines   are announced in the academic calendar.  All dates are final and are not subject to change. There will be no postponements. When you start your project/thesis, you are expected to review the academic calendar.

 

 Thesis Submission:

 

  1.              The thesis must be binded with a dark blue hard cover which you can download.
  2.              Two approval forms must be filled out and signed. One will be in the thesis, and the other will be presented to the Graduate School.
  3.              One Presentation Evaluation Report must be presented to the Graduate School.
  4.              The Thesis Entry Form can be found on the YÖK website.  This form needs to be filled out. Three copies of this form must be signed and presented to the Graduate School. (YÖK reference number must be the file name on the CD)
  5.              Two CDs saved in the PDF and Word format should also be presented to the Graduate School. If the thesis has an APPENDIX, it should be separate on the CD in .rar format.
  6.              The reference number acquired from the YÖK website and the name of the student must be written on all the CDs. 
  7.        The plagiarism report must be submitted to the Graduate School of Social Sciences by the thesis advisor.

 

Attention To graduate students and related Advisors, regarding Project, 2019-2020 academic year’s Fall Semester Project Process:

 

  •                   The projects must be checked by the project advisor. Students are responsible for preparing their project in accordance with the Project Writing Guide. The Project Writing Guide and sample pages can be found above this page. With respect to the deadlines mentioned in the calendar below
  •                   Your advisor evaluates your project. After the evaluation, the advisor must fill out and sign the Project Evaluation Report and submit it to the Program Coordinator along with a soft copy of the project. (Soft Copy should be PDF format on a CD).
  •          January 10, 2020 is the submission deadline for the following:

o    Evaluation Report

o    Reference Percentage Report (plagiarism report).

o    CD (PDF Format)

o    Project Approval Form to the Program Coordinator by Project Advisor.

14 January 2020 Tuesday

Last Day for entry the semester-end grades until 17:59 pm in addition to masters’ theses and projects grades.
