Diplomas will be given electronically from now on thanks to the blockchain technology called ‘The new safety system’. The foundations of the system, leading to reaching to the documents such as diploma, certificate, and transcript without losing time, have been laid in Bahçeşehir University.
It is stated that the application of blockchain, bringing innovation to many areas such as education, health, and finance, will provide considerable opportunities for many areas. The most important factor making this application safe is that the registrations are not saved not only in one platform, but distributed to the world-wide hundreds of thousands of computers. By this means, safe, fast and free data migration is provided without the need of any central authority among the users.
In this context, Bahçeşehir University (BAU) has adopted the system leading to reaching to the documents such as diploma, certificate, and transcript without losing time with blockchain. Asst. Prof. Bora Erdamar, the Director of BAU BlockchainIST, informing about the application of CertifyIST accomplished in the Campus of BAU International University Washington D.C, said “We created an application in which all our students’ certificates, diplomas and any kind of documents about their education can be saved starting from the diplomas of the first graduates in Washington D.C. There will be both a mobile app and a website of this application. In this context, CertifyIST is the first diploma and blockchain project accomplished in the university. There have been many projects about this subject of very prestigious universities in the world up until now.”
FAKE DIPLOMAS WILL BE PRECLUDED
Asst. Prof. Bora Erdamar, talking about the faults of the application, stated that the documents of students will be saved easily and safely and they will be able to share with any institutions and people if need be.
Asst. Prof. Bora Erdamar stating that the application will be useful for three main institutions and people, said: “
Firstly, the loss of time during the reclaimation of the lost documents in intercollegiate conversations is on the carpet. When it is needed to retake the diploma, the time consumed is approximately 2-3 weeks. That’s why, there will be an application shortening the time substantially of our project. Secondly, a general problem in Turkey and in the world is fake diplomas, which is a weighty matter. We will be able to preclude fake diplomas by this application due to the fact that this project is accomplished in blockchain. The production of the fake diplomas will not be possible thanks to the feature of smart contracts in the application, by which we prove that only the permitted institution has given the diploma. Hence, the application will be useful for institutions and the students in terms of precluding both the lost and fake diplomas.
BUREAUCRATIC LENTOR WILL BE RESOLVED
Asst. Prof. Bora Erdamar, saying that the traffic of these documents causes loss of time bureaucratically in today’s business world, stated: “In this context, it will be very fast to get the documents and fasten the process for the institutions, to which people apply for a job.”
THE SCOPE OF THIS APPLICATION IS AIMED TO BE BROADENED
Asst. Prof. Bora Erdamar said: “The most important goal of the application of CertifyIST is to grow firstly in Istanbul and all across Turkey with the participation of other universities, which will contribute to being heard in the world. We are going to continue the application started in the Campus of Washington D.C of Bahçeşehir University with the students in our other campuses. We want to do our best for this application to be heard all around the world thanks to the addition of other universities from Turkey firstly, and the consortium to be established with the other universities around the world.”
