Bahçeşehir University (BAU) arranged “The Award Ceremony of Respect to Science” in order to award the academicians who contributed to science and technology with their scientific researches and international editions. The members of BAU family have been awarded in the ceremony arranged for the second time in this year.
Enver Yücel, the chairman of the Board of Trustees of BAU, Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın, the rector of BAU, and the academic and administrative staff attended the program taken place in the Beşiktaş Campus of BAU. All the employees who have completed their 10th and 15th year in the institution, whose academic titles have advanced, and who contributed to science and the institution were awarded by the university.
The university, which has taken finding solutions for the social problems as a goal since the establishment, presented -based on this vision- the awards such as BAU Social Benefit Award, BAU Contribution to Science Award, and BAU Honor Award to the projects and the lecturers who conducted the projects. Firstly, Prof. Dr. Şirin Karadeniz, the Dean of the Faculty of Education of BAU, was considered worthy to BAU Social Benefit Award because of her works and contributions to Turkey in the field of education. She has also been conducting works and projects in the areas including information operational thinking, digital citizenship, the integration of technology to education, and design-driven thinking and has been giving seminars about these areas to teachers, students, and parents. Enver Yücel gave the award to Karadeniz who participated in the commission in the activities of the updating the secondary education program of the Computer Science lesson of Ministry of National Education in secondary education in 2016-2017 and IT and Software lesson in the secondary school.
Prof. Dr. Deniz Süha Küçükaksu, the assistant dean and the lecturer ofCardiovascular Surgery in Medical Faculty of BAU, who achieved to producethe first indigenous heart assist device, took the BAU Contribution to Science Award which is given to the lecturers who succeeded in the subjects including representation in national and international institutions, the scientific achievements, the number of scientific articles, and the number of attributions. Küçükaksu, who completed the production of “Istanbul Heart”,Turkey’s first and unique indigenous heart assist device whose works have been conducted by her since 2006, used indigenous heart assist device on animals successfully on 17 November 2017. Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın presented the award to Küçükaksu.
Lastly, Prof. Dr. Feridun Yenisey, who has devoted his life to science, has given direction to social life, and education with his editions, books, and scientific studies, and has contributed a lot to the introduction and awareness of our country in the world, was considered worthy to BAU Honor Award. Enver Yücel presented the award to Yenisey, who has been continuing his work as the lecturer and the head of the department of Criminal and Criminal Procedure Law in Bahçeşehir University Law School.
The rector Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın making a speech in the ceremony said that: “We have been working for 20 years with an acceleration increasing continuously. We want to catch this acceleration that we caught last semester in the fields of researching, developing, and project areas and we want to experience the pride of succeeding in these areas in 100th year of our Republic whose value we feel much more each passing day upon considering the incidents happening around us.”
In addition, in the award ceremony, the presentation of gown to 35 academicians who joined BAU family this year and the presentation of scarf and certificate to 49 academicians whose academic titles advanced was performed. 13 academicians who completed their 10th year in the university and 15 academicians who completed their 15th year in the university was awarded with plaquets and thanks.
