Turkey’s first VR movie is being shot. Tuna Tetik, a graduate of Bahçeşehir University Motion Pictures and Television Department, took on the directing of the movie and his short movie “Neo Renaissance” has been featured in 69th Cannes Film Festival.
Director Tuna Tetik said, “Virtual Reality technology is an emerging media. The fascination of this media comes from its vast area of usage. This technology comes in not only on cinema, but also on many other fields like education, advertising, games and medicine.”
Tetik said, “This technology is changing and inverting our classic language of storytelling. We are thinking about making a movie that uses this technology. I’m taking over the directing of this project.But it would be more accurate to express this way; we can claim that in projects where VR technology or in other words virtual reality is being used, the audience is now seated in the director’s chair. The reason is, this technology offers the audience the opportunity of a 360-degree view contrary to a traditionally shot movie. Currently, there are many laboratories developing in the world that use this technology. Bahçeşehir VR First Laboratory is among the pioneers. We can even say that it’s among the first in Turkey. We began the preliminary phase for our movie by bringing together many international and national digital designers within this laboratory. I used the term “movie” but because the VR technology can be experienced with virtual glasses, it is actually not quite right to quote these studies that use this technology as movies. Because, the viewing trend is being supplanted by experiencing nowadays. In other words, what we do here is actually designing an experience. That’s why this VR design is being a pioneer in the sector.”
